Clashes erupt between two ethnic groups in Nairobi slum: AFP

Nairobi, Aug 13, 2017 (AFP)

Violent clashes erupted on Sunday between ethnic Luo supporters of defeated Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga and members of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Kikuyu group, according to an AFP photographer.
The confrontation broke out after Odinga supporters torched businesses belonging to Kikuyu, who then grouped together armed with sticks, bows and arrows. Clashes followed in which a man was severely beaten, leaving him motionless on the ground.
It was unclear whether the man was alive or dead and Red Cross workers were unable to retrieve him due to the standoff between the rival groups.
The clashes came just hours after Odinga visited the slum to address supporters for the first time since his defeat was announced in an election he claims was massively rigged.
The election dispute sparked protests which have left 16 people dead in Odinga strongholds.
